MAKSLA XO Gallery is delighted to welcome you as our guest to RIGA CONTEMPORARY 2026 -internationally fostered contemporary art fair in the Baltics and the Nordics with 43 visible and internationally recognized galleries and institutions from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Italy, France, Belgum, Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Netherlands, Georgia, United Kingdom, United States, Japan, Indonesia, South Korea.
MAKSLA XO Gallery will present a curated selection of works by three contemporary Latvian artists – Kristaps Ģelzis, Paulis Liepa, Zane Žeivate. It brings together distinct yet interrelated artistic perspectives, unfolding a dialogue between two conceptual worlds: the feminine and the masculine, alongside a reflection on urgent contemporary events. The exposition is distinguished by the diversity of media and the strong material presence of each practice. All three artists are masters of their chosen medium, each developing a unique author’s technique.

Kristaps Ģelzis. Still Life. 2012

Kristaps Ģelzis (1962) personality and art is one of the most significant phenomena in Latvian contemporary art, represented Latvia at the 54th Venice Biennale. His art focuses on how people feel today about their country and their place within it, addressing what remains unspoken in daily life and reflecting the spirit of the time through symbols and archetypes. His art has no boundaries of medium – whether working with pure drawing, luminescent watercolour, or plastic trash, any medium and any material is made to serve the idea.

Paulis Liepa. >>>>>>. 2026

Paulis Liepa (1978) - one of the most internationally recognised Latvian contemporary printmakers. In his works, he employs specific, carefully encoded visual codes, drawing inspiration from contemporary issues – philosophical, global, social, ecological, and, particularly in recent years, political and geopolitical. At Riga Contemporary 2026, he presents his latest works from the series TRADING

Zane Žeivate. Soft Coated HFI221128-01. 2023

Zane Žeivate (1993) - a multidisciplinary artist whose practice centres on the female gaze, exploring women's emotions, roles, and aspirations. Through spatial metaphors and materials such as metal, fabric, and embroidered text, she blends craft and autobiography to reflect on women's lived experiences and broader socio-political structures.
