Skuja Braden  is 1+1 = 3.

Skuja Braden is simultaneously a fictitious person, noted artist, and a bandit and thief who has stolen the individual identities of artist Ingūna Skuja (from Latvia) and artist Melissa Braden (from California).

Skuja Braden, is the pseudonym made up of both artists last names and the signatures marking all their collaborative works. Skuja Braden is the third artist to have grown out of their collaboration.  Not only  does this third artist have a mind of its own, it also rests or fills up a third position arising from the shared efforts of these two artist.  Thus Skuja Braden is 1+1=3.

Skuja Braden are making porcelain koans for their exhibition "Karma Koma," at Maksa XO Galerija.

The theme informing their work is one of transformation centered around the Zen koan "Form is Emptiness, Emptiness is Form."

The purpose of a koan is to make someone become aware of the difference between themselves, their mind.

Skuja Braden  begin literally with the form, and the form is empty of all design before they place the symbol of emptiness upon it as a visual starting point and a reference holder for the remainder of the image which is the form of their meditation on
"Karma Koma".
