Ieva Maurite has graduated from the Department of Graphic Arts at the Art Academy of Latvia (2000). She has worked with linocut and made illustrations for children’s books. With an educational foundation in graphic art, the main expressive element in her artwork is a steady, deliberate line. However, in her exhibitions since the early 1990s, she has focused more on painting. Ieva Maurite’s art is best recognized for a definite style in acrylic painting; for simple and accurate symbolic figures painted in fine line on a smooth, even and monochromatic (usually black or white) background : a cow, a face, the contours of a dog, a house, waves, mountains, angels, stars or other figures. The images seem to levitate in immateriality and their separation from material reality seems determined by metaphysics. (Elita Ansone, the Latvian National Museum of Art.)

Ieva Maurite has been participating at exhibitions since 1997, organized 17 solo shows and taken part in more than 70 group shows in Latvia and abroad. Ieva Maurite has participated in several well-known artist residencies: Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France (2015, 2005/2006), BBK residency in Bremen, Germany (2012), SIM residency in Reykjavík, Iceland (2010), Kunstschule Liechtenstein in Liechtenstein (2010).
For her solo show “Green Line” at gallery “Tifana”, Ieva Maurite was nominated for the prestigious Purvitis Award 2009.
