At ART.FAIR 2013 the Maksla XO gallery collection will be formed of recent works by two emerging Kristaps Gelzis un Kaspars Podnieks and one established artist Ivars Heinrihsons.

Kristaps Gelzis (1962) is artist who is able to present himself in any kind of mediums which is offered in 20th/21st Century. Actually, it is one of Kristaps Gelzis personal touches and his artistic handwritten originality to create each of his solo exhibitions in a different mediums. Today he interested in plastic paintings - created in that sort of way and with that kind of means of expression that this method definitely could be called an author technique. Instead of canvas these frames are disposed with a plastic polythene, but on them are spread different synthetic materials ”colours” or structures - plastic bags, polythene, scotch, acrylic pigments painting, markers drawing, inkjet printing on transparent film.
Kristaps Gelzis is interested in portraying society through the game; that is why such opposties as joke and seriousness, directness and delicate poetics, irony and sentiment can be seen simultaneously in their works.
At 2011 Kristaps Ģelzis was presented Latvia at the 54 Biennale in Venice as well as got the most prestige and major award in the Latvia`s art world - Purvītis Award 2011.

Kaspars Podnieks (1980) the young and promising artist (nominated for the Purvītis Award 2011). In this year he was presented Latvia at the 54 Biennale in Venice. The artist’s areas of activity are video, installation, and staged photography.
Kaspars Podnieks’s conveys about his metaphisical ties with the familiar envinonment of his native Drusti village. Here one can observe a rather paradoxical combination : a blend of urban intellectualism with Latvian country mentality, which hirts at a kind of peasant, slyness, practicality, faith and even naivete and sincerity of the artist that he himself admits. (Jānis Borgs, 2011) And besides Podnieks’s image is illusory, poetic and it isn’t documentary realism, artist tills everything with meaningful angles.

Ivars Heinrihsons (1945) is a brilliant represenative of neo-expressionism in Latvian contemporary painting. He has a sophisticated achromatic palette in which the black line or field is the basis for everything - both expression and stability. The use of opposites embraces the whole of Ivars Heinrihsons' creativity in both the system of images and colours used as well as in the brushwork.
Ivars Heinrihson's painting is a result of intense thinking revealed in imaginary form. The tangles and shafts of lines are expressions of the "I" that is unconscious but upon which everything rests. The painting becomes an experience and simultaneously understanding. In it we sense an apparent incompleteness of the drawing and composition in which a line is ready to shoot out again onto the canvas or paper.
It is this unpredictable yet sensed line that is characteristic of all Heinrihsons' works be it in painting, drawing or in the twisted forms metal wire. That is why his works are difficult to frame - the brush strokes extend beyond the confines of the canvas. The figures of horses, the hand gestures and leg movements of ballerinas and piano wires are not conducive to limitations.
Ivars Heinrihsons have the strong system of images that personifies a person's ego (including Heinrihsons'), its primal nature, spirit and intellect. These are both thoughts and body and mind that contain all the opposites - struggles and anxieties (the horse).
