Liena Bondare „WHITE SPOTS”

Maksla XO Gallery, 12.09.-08.10.2013.

„White spots” develop beyond the picture lines, in questions, which resonate and arise in me, when I look at the photos of unknown authors and the anonymous people visible in them. I find those photos in antique shops of Riga, in my picture archive and in accidentally discovered fleeting life stories of “little people”. That is how on the 1. Line of Čiekurkalns I met Erica – a little girl in a picture, on which a name was written in a shaky handwriting, and I just couldn’t leave the photo there.

Children from the photos look at me in a dressed up ceremonial way and they are getting ready for the long lasting life. They all have been real people, whose faiths remain undiscovered for me or known only partially, but painted and interpreted on canvas, they fill in the missing information that I don’t know and change into other surreal characters.

Exhibition is about noiseless, forgotten life stories, the collision of beauty and “the fact’s brutality”, the relations between space and time. It is also about fear. It continuous to solve the already begun equation “Kunst > Everyday nothing,”
