CAPSULE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS

Maksla XO gallery from 07.02. - 26.02.2013

For the last few years of exhibitions by Gints Gabrans (1970) there always has been the contentious line between art and science. It has never been crossed. The artist maintains his role of author and keeps the reins of creativity in his own hands, initiating experiments and processes led by physical laws (Vilnis Vejs).

The solo exhibition "Capsule of Photosythesis" invites the viewers into the World of Art and Science:

"In the exhibition hall there will be created an air-tight, isolated space with a algae colony in it.
The installation has been created as the living eco-system between the algae and the viewers. The more viewers come, the more carbon dioxide necessary to their existance will be delivered and with the red fluorescence growing stronger they reproduce. With the viewers absent, they smother in an isolated space, and the dead mass of the green algae cease to glow in red"- Gints Gabrans.

Gints Gabrans was born in Latvia and graduated in stage design at the Art Academy of Latvia in 1994.
With his work, "Paramirrors", Gints Gabrans has recieved local and international recognition, participating in the 52nd Venice Biennale 2007 and becoming the Purvitis Prize viewers vote winner in 2009.
