SANDRA KRASTINA

Just have to run across that flower field

“The central motif of the new exhibition is human’s duty to nature - living and non-living nature, which is destroyed as a result of war. I would also like to talk about the strength of an individual’s willpower when, in danger of death, a person tries to save a dog and a cat because it is also a life for which we -  the people must be responsible.
In the exhibition's title, I deliberately chose a quote that, at first impression, promises feelings of calm beauty. However, the statement - just have to run across that flower field - in the context of danger turns from a promise of joy into a tragically decisive possibility.
The new painting series “War Flowers” is drawn from the news streams we watch daily and co-exist emotionally,” Sandra Krastina, 2023

Sandra Krastina’s new works are characterized by exceptional attentiveness and careful analysis, monumentality and emotional scope that express drama, even a tragedy. In her diverse creative expressions, she always finds new forms of expression to introduce the viewer to this way of world perception and cognition. The painter asks questions to herself and for everyone, looks for the answers, and guesses and invites others to think about it.
Sandra Krastina’s arwork are included in public collections: Latvian National Museum of Art (Riga, Latvia), Art Museum of the Artist’s Union of Latvia (Riga, Latvia), Mark Rothko Art Centre in Daugavpils (Dugavpils, Latvia), Tartu Art Museum, Matti Milius Art Collection (Tartu, Estonia), Ludwig Museum (Aachen, Germany), The State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Russia).
