Red Shift

"It seems like a logical question to ask – what my painting has in common with the term used in the cosmology – Red Shift… However, if we abandon explicit content thinking and don’t try to look for the stories about other galactics in the paintings, then we arrive to a conclusion that the achievements in cosmology, as well as in painting and in the general progress of mankind is the result of the thinking process. Yet.. No one seems to be able to define what are the thoughts. And it seems that lately we are more and more aware that we cannot strictly define the boundaries of art and its materiality. When I look in a mirror, I see such a familiar and well-known face and character for myself. When I look at my works, I see a totally different, and maybe even an unfamiliar self. It is considered that the painting is one of the most intimate and private artistic expressions, which doesn’t allow to hide. Sometimes even using the banal term “mirror of the soul”. This is the reason why I came to the title Red Shift.
The purpose of the exhibition is an eclectic whole, which would be as an experiment, where the unifying element must be this inexplicable inner “self”" - Girts Muiznieks, 2018.
