Edvards Grube  DAYLIGHT

Maksla XO Gallery from 28.02. – 26.03.2013

Edvards Grube belongs to that generation of Latvian painters who followed the first Soviet era art rebels, the generation of the so-called ‘’Severe Style’’. Right now, Edvards Grube painting marks one of the highest points of Latvian culture.

Edvards Grube’s creative force is the embodiment of Latvian mentality, which reaches the revelation of spiritual tension in peasant-like thoroughness. There are no accidental themes. Grube’s path of artistic growth carries the dramatic markings of the Crucified, the subject of mother and child, the motif of light in the window, fragments of violin, bread. Each depicted object is transformed into a sign that carries the whole load of the work.

Although condensed and laconic, the message of Grubes works contains an essentially masculine approach to the deepest foundations of human life.
