The image of a woman as an inevitable element of the popular culture carries a list of associations: the era, the environment, the style and the historical events. But the concept is opposite in Olga Shilova’s exhibition “My Dreams’ Calendar 2012” (at gallery Māksla XO from January 12 till February 6). This time the search for the identity takes place in urban environment, and the images of the women grant antropomorphic shape to the tolerated fantasies.  The beauty icons of the different eras and cultures – Nefertiti, Amelia Earhart, Venus of Milo, Lubov Orlova, geisha, princess Diana, Parvati, Pamela Anderson, Aphrodite, Merilyn Monroe, Madam de Pompadour, Josephine Baker, Virgin Mary – goddesses and celebrities, acclaimed and archetypical – all gather in Riga city space, each in a specially selected semantically appropriate scene.

The exhibition “My Dreams’ Calendar 2012” unites sculpture, photography and installation art. Putting to life this creative, experimental and explorative program, the artist reveals new and unexpected view onRigacity – making the spectator feel the shift of the reality. The self-ironic language form reminds of the connection between and mutual impact of the environment and a person.

There are 12 staged photographs – calendar sheets – and 12 sculptures in the exposition. In order to emphasize the relation to the pop-culture, a small circulation of the calendar edition is planned and a sculptural installation with multiplied copies of the sculptural images will be created. Just like in project “My Dreams’ Calendar 2011” that was presented in the Creative workshop of Latvian National Museum of Art exhibition hall Arsenāls last year – the model is the artist herself Olga Shilova.
