Vineta Kaulaca (1971)
Vineta Kaulaca's works in Latvian contemporary art have already been defined as an equivqlent to good and well-considered painting, as an awareness of the reality of this time.
It is not based only upon her painter's talent or feel for colours. It is also created by a person of great erudition, in-depth research of the contemporary art trends.
Her work is mostly about perception: the way we look at the world, building up an image of the whole from different fragments. It involves comparing the different perceptions of time bound to the specific spaces.
How to paint the memory of the seen moment or a second in the flow of time?
How to paint movement and the relationship between speed and slowness?
These are the questions that the artist is putting to herself and is looking for answer on canvas with the help of paint and photo.
In Vineta Kaulaca's style of painting there is influence from Latvian art traditions and English school of painting and also German style of photography.
Actually Vineta Kaulaca is an artist, and the only one form the Latvian new generation painters, with an emphasis on the international movement that cover not only Latvia but also Europe and USA - she has recently participated in a number of group exhibitions, residences and workshops in Los Angeles, New York, London, Boston, Hague, Oxfordshire, Portsmouth and Dublin.
She is also involved in the International network initiated by Braziers International Artists' Workshop supported by Arts Council England.
