Laimonis Blumbergs ( 1919 )

Sculptor Laimonis Blumbergs is one of the most whole - hearted and radiant personalities in contemporary Latvian art.
The main theme of his creation has crystallized during the last twenty years: he carves female figures from granite, labradorite, limestone, shellstone and porphyry boulders discovered in Latvia and during his tours round Europe.

Small and of a larger size, they impersonate the symbol of womanhood and maternity.
Laimonis Blumbergs has found his own way how to load the sculptural forms with vital energy. His works convey the feeling of the Universe which has its roots in the ancient beliefs and traditions of the Balts and for which one of the highest values is harmonic confluence of man and nature.

Laimonis Blumbergs has a fabulous feeling of the material: in his hands the ordinary boulders get a new life.
